Live in Landover MD 1983. I was there and hooked ever since. One of the greatest song ever written.

Osmosis that was a great story. I wish Eddie Hazel had recorded more music! Kidd and Blackbyrd are excellent axe men as well. I hope they get the respect they deserve.

This is to me without question the greatest funk band ever. Dennis Chambers is a Drum God! Never got a chance to see this band live but the "Live at the Beverly Theatre" album was sufficient enough. To this day I listen to that album everyday. Gary you are in my prayers. I just saw you guys at Toad's New Haven in Feb 2010 and ya'll are still bad as shit! FUNK ON!!!!!!

I saw Eddie Hazel only 1 time ever:
it was the FIRST TIME Parliament-Funkadelic EVER played The 9:30 Club. It was in late November, 1989 at the ORIGINAL 930 F St. NW location (in the old Atlantic Building). Dig, Dave--
they got 20+ people up on that tiny ass stage!!!
Here's where it got funky: EDDIE, MIKE and BLACKBYRD, all together, doing Maggot Brain (Boogie Mosson wasn't there, but SKEET was!). Naturally, Eddie led off and took it (he had to, Mike Hampton be damned.). Well, while Mike was cool playing rhythm, Blackbyrd got stupid and started a "fight" (lead-vs.-lead).
HE. GOT. HIS. BLACK. ASS. O-W-N-E-D!!!!! Eddie, effectively, gave Dwayne McKnight a good ol' fashioned "axe-whippin'!" And after it was over, Eddie put the "mark" on it by ending with an Ambulance-Siren FX!! (It turns out, that's how Eddie ALWAYS ended Maggot Brain LIVE). Man, that shit was great. All 3 of FUNKADELIC's Lead Axe-men, at the same time.

Funny thing is, about 3 years ago, at The (current!)9:30 Club (on V St., NW), Blackbryd started ANOTHER fight--this time with Mike. It wasn't on the same level as the original 3-way I saw back then, but it was just as mean. This time, or course, it was during Mike's KNEE DEEP Solo--well, it wasn't THAT night. And, again, Blackbryd got OWNED!!
Brotha better watch himself, before Mike returns the FAVOR on DOG STAR, someday.
Great funkin' memories.

This song right here gives you the chills it is so good. Mike Hampton and Eddie Hazel, Maceo Parker, David Chambers, George Clinton, are you kidding me the best that ever did it.
