Decrim vs. Legalization - I co-wrote this earlier this year:
Legalization vs. Decriminalization

Cannabis has been decriminalized in NY for over 30 years. Yet NYC is the cannabis arrest capitol of the world, with over an eighth of America’s cannabis arrests. Most of these are for low-level, non-violent possession with no intent to distribute. Decriminalization is a flawed and failed attempt at ignoring the issues of regulation and control. It is time for us to re-examine our current policies and take the brave step forward to end the longest running war in our nation’s short history. We need to stop trying to solve this with an overwhelming law enforcement approach and look at other more sensible means of regulation and control. Under decriminalization, we lack these means all together.

Decriminalization does not allow for the regulation or control of cannabis: either for quality or for limiting sales to minors. School children still have more access to illegal (decriminalized) drugs, than legal (regulated) drugs.

Legalization means regulation and control, which means safer drug use and less health problems and risks, or harm reduction.

Decriminalization sounds good and is easer for politicians to support, but does not solve most of the problems associated with cannabis use and it’s prohibition. Legalization solves most of these issues.

New tax revenue can fund drug education, treatment and other services. Decriminalization will continue to cost us billions upon billions of dollars.

Legalization will free up much needed law enforcement resources. Decriminalization will continue to drown our law enforcement in an un-winnable street war against its own citizens.

Legalization would help heal the ties between the police and the community. Decriminalization will continue to keep a huge portion of our population in constant conflict with our law enforcement community.

Legalization will start to move our nation back to respect for the rule of law. Decriminalization will continue to breed disrespect for rule of law.

That's right. The government is trying to bust as many people right now, for marijuana, because they know that it is soon it be legal. Do you know just how much money the cops and the judges and the lawyers put into their own pockets because of marijuana drug charges.??

I am one of the co founders of the church and what happened last week was one of the most horrifying terroristic attacks any government has waged on innoncent children. When I heard that task force had arrived I took about 10 children for a walk in the woods to protect them from seeing any thing upsetting. they knew it was not our usual nature hike. t hey were afraid from the onset, and I assured them that the other children still at the church would be uninvolved, and that we'd be back at camp soon.We were unable to return for six anxious, exhausting hours and came back to find tales of traumatized children. My son 12, his cousin 9, and my friends daughter were held up on his quad by machine guns and my son was searched four times. My friends greatgrandson who is four could not speak for two hours. Finaly he said a man with a mask and a huge gun made him reaise his hands over his head. While lying in the ten at bedtime the kids were reliving being held up by guns to their heads instead of the turtles they found. My daughter who 5 is afraid that we will have music at church again because then the bad men will come. the task force had the wrong address on the warrant, they yanked 7grand from the gate and reported 5, everyone was aquitted. Ironically many of us felt that it had been one of our best days because of the way we united, helped and shared immense amounts of love for our friends, families and newcomers. Our children were the most amazing spirits totaly bonded and acting with pure compassion for eachother, their parents, and all people there. he great spirit above is the spirit of love.

The Funk Fest raid was like nothing we ever saw before. We all kind of knew we ran the risk of getting raided while gathering but never thought it would be like this - with children getting guns pointed at their heads. All over the news are lies about it so we need for everyone to spread the word...thanks

I used to think legalization was the way to go... until somebody said that 'de-criminalized' implies you can smoke it and won't have to pay taxes on buying it! HMMMM... but if we gotta cough up taxes to buy good smoke, I'll do it. They'll have a hard time taxing the dirt if I happen to feel like growing it though.
